The kids are the best part of my day. For students who have little or nothing, they have hearts of gold. They don't ask for much and are so excited by anything. When I told them we were going to the Pumpkin Farm in Queens they were ecstatic. Most have never been to a pumpkin farm or even had their own pumpkin. I try to give them the experiences I had as a child growing up middle class with parents who loved me and took me places. Most of these children have never carved a pumpkin, made a cake, gone to a museum or zoo. I try to bridge the gap and give them love, compassion and a safe nurturing environment in which they can thrive. I teach them the virtues of compassion, honesty, diligence, respect for all and responsibility.
