My students are in 1st grade at a public elementary school in California. They are 5 and 6 years old, kind, energetic, and eager to learn to read and write. They are very bright children, but haven't yet learned the skills necessary to organize the mountain of paperwork that comes with being a student! Most of their families are low income, with both parents working 1 or 2 jobs. This means that while parents desperately want their children to succeed in school, most do not have the financial resources to purchase the materials I am requesting.
