My students attend a neighborhood school that values learning! They live near a noted University and understand the value of an education; however, due to various backgrounds and experiences, they have a hard time listening and following directions. They are motivated and willing "to run with it" but they start running before they have "it". Being able to play music takes skill, attention to detail, and a concerted effort to follow the conductor. Playing music together will require their best efforts and enhance their thrill to perform for others/in front of others. By learning the value of practicing and the need to stay together in the music, their sense of rhythm and their ability to listen and follow will be greatly enhanced allowing them to truly "run with it"!
