My school is a school in a low income community. I teach in a 6th grade self-contained classroom. All of my students have disabilities with a high range of needs. I have to differentiate my instruction to meet the needs of each of my students. My goal is to instill a love of learning in these students and show them that everyone can and will learn! With these books, students will be able to read during independent reading time, guided practice, as well as in their homes. They will be able to practice the strategies taught in class such as inferencing, comprehension, fluency etc., which will help them meet their reading goals, and move up levels quicker. We will also be able to form book clubs in the classroom so that the students can work together to create projects and participate in activities through cooperative learning. The students will get excited to get new books so that they are not reading the same books over and over again!
