Please take a moment and think about your daily life. How many times per day do you use some form of technology to aid you in accomplishing the simplest task? If you are like me, that number is quite large. Now imagine not having that technology. Suddenly, life becomes much more difficult. With that in mind, I think it is reasonable to say that students need to be learning how to use technology in schools. However, that is not a possibility when that technology is not available.
That is how these materials will make a difference in my students' lives. At our school, we only have 3 computer labs and 2 laptop carts for more than 20 teachers to share. Most of the time, both the computer labs and the laptop carts are completely booked and not available for others to use. My students' access to technology is completely limited. That is why they so desperately need ten Kindle Fire tablets for our classroom. My students will be able to use the Kindle Fires to research topics that we are learning about and explore far beyond the information that our textbooks offer. The Kindle Fires will also allow me to offer my students content-rich books that we otherwise would not have access to. The Kindle Fires will allow them the opportunity to learn how to learn using technology, so to speak.
In today's world, technology is everywhere except where it is needed most, in our schools. It is essential that students have the ability to learn how to appropriately use technology to expand their knowledge. That is why these Kindle Fires are so greatly needed for my students!
