I teach active first graders. They are curious and full of wonder. I want to tap into that wonder by getting them outside into the garden to work and learn. Many of my students spend very little time outdoors once they leave school. Technology and TV rule their existence. With most households with two working parents, many are at school until 6:00pm. There is little time to cook together, much less garden together. They do not know where their food comes from. Many cannot identify basic vegetables. I want them to want to eat healthy. I believe that having a hand in growing their own food will encourage this.
