Our school has 29 different spoken languages. To say that there is great diversity at our school is an understatement. The school is surrounded by low socially economic housing which includes apartments and trailer parks. Many of our student are transient or homeless. My class is made up of 52% Caucasian and 48% Hispanic, Native American, Asian, and Indian. They range in ability from ESL second language learners who have difficulty reading to advanced learners always ready for a challenge. I love my students. They light up at the mention of Writing in class. They continue to surprise me each day with their thirst for knowledge. A document camera would make such a enormous impact on their learning. Not only could they see everything that was demonstrated in class, but that they could do it right along with me. Think about the impact that would have. Manipulatives would no longer wait for small group instruction but everyone could use them at the same time.
