My students are curious, creative, resilient, and hopeful. They are vibrant 15 and 16 year-olds working to graduate from high school prepared for college success. Although nearly 100% of these students come from low-income families, they are finding ways to uplift themselves and their community through education and social action. My students thrive when given hands-on activities, and I am working alongside them to help cultivate their voice - both personal and academic. Many of these students are English learners, meaning that they thrive when given the ability to utilize visual aids and written work to present their ideas. My students work tirelessly at a school with staff that match their energy and effort. I hate to slow these students down by not having adequate materials to help foster their abilities to communicate their thinking and learning.
