Little Flower is a residential school for children in special education. The students are often wards of the state and have ben placed in our school and treatment facility through the courts. Few students at Little Flower have parents they live with and fewer have parental involvement. Most students are products of the drugs and alcohol their mother consumed while pregnant. In my class of eight 16 - 21 year old males, I have 3 non readers, and 5 who are reading at more than 8 years below grade level. In their final years of schooling, their focus is on life skills, social skills and independent living. They are an amazing, resilient group of young men who continue to come to school everyday to better themselves and try to work through the issues life has afforded them. They want to make a better life for themselves through whatever means necessary.
