My class is primarily African-American and Hispanic students. Almost all of my students know how to use technology in ways that still baffle many of my colleagues. However, just because they know how to use it, doesn't mean they have access to it. Very few of my families own a computer at home. It is sad to watch them interact with other White classmates and see them pull back from conversations centering around technology. They should be given a chance to show off their skills and learn in ways that best suit their generation. Technology is taken for granted in today's society. Everyone thinks that everyone else has their same access to technology. Well, my students have a diversity of talents and they need a medium that will fill their digital spirits! They have such passion at transforming the world they live in. I want my classroom to give them those opportunities.
