As the 2020 Coronavirus has changed the way we teach, it is more important than ever for each child to have access to an individual set of manipulatives as community sharing and small groups are now prohibited. Our small, rural system does not have the financial resources to place the needed materials in every child's hand, but with the supplies we have on hand and with these additional supplies, we will be able to place math aids into individual boxes or kits. Then, children will have hands-on items whether at school or at home. Research shows that children retain more mathematical knowledge and maintain a high level of understanding when you can make a real-world connection. Using manipulatives for math helps to visually and concretely connect valuable math concepts.
