I teach at an urban performing arts school in Michigan. Ninety percent of students at my school receive free and reduced lunch. Many of my students do not have books and/or Internet access at home. This means that their exposure to literacy is very limited. My school does not provide their students with an adequate library. Books are not organized and can not be checked out. Resources are limited and my students need more reading practice. The children are very eager readers and love books! They would be very excited to have a classroom library. As a teacher, it is my job to get students excited about reading. A classroom library would be a great tool to have!
