Our PreK–5th grade speech‑language program serves bright, resilient students who face significant communication challenges that affect their academic and social development. Many have speech and language impairments alongside autism, other health impairments, or specific learning disabilities, creating complex barriers to learning and self‑expression. Living in an urban inner‑city community, our students often experience limited access to early intervention, language‑rich environments, and consistent educational support. High mobility, absenteeism, and housing instability further disrupt progress. Yet with structured, individualized, and culturally responsive services, they show curiosity, creativity, and determination. Funding will expand access to high‑quality materials, evidence‑based interventions, and family resources, ensuring these vulnerable learners gain the communication skills needed to thrive.
