Every Monday, students have the opportunity to read a book of their choice in class for 20 minutes. Then they update their Goodreads account, where they update their progress, comment on what they've read, and set further goals for reading. They also comment on each others' posts, to learn more about what their classmates are reading and get ideas for what to read next. They are encouraged to continue reading at home and making progress toward their reading goals. A robust classroom library helps them find books they are interested in. I buy many of these myself, but would love to reveal a whole new set of options for them as older ones wear thin.
