My students are wonderful young men (ages 11-13) who bring joy to each and every day. They attend a special education school on Long Island, New York that is for children with significant emotional and behavioral disabilities (such as bi-polar disorder, anxiety disorders, psychosis, and mood disorders) alongside many other diffucilities (such as Autism, Mental Retardation,ADHD and Learning Disabilities). My students require modifications to all lessons in a way that will be engaging to them while keeping them ontask and from having emotional outbursts. I have found that creating a sense of 'calmness' has really helped keep them relax and function in school. This year, I would like to make their classroom as a whole more relaxed so they can leave much of their tension and stress at the door. Although I try my best to do this, I have a lack of resources to make it really happen. By using sensory integregation techniques (tapping into their multiple senses),I hope to make this happen!
