Our school is a title 1school. Much of our population is at the poverty level. Most of our kids are on free and reduced lunch. Many of our children don't have their own bed, let alone their own book. Our kids are so hungry to learn. They enter the building eager and excited. They thrive on positive reinforcement and a warm smile. These kids go home to places that are not conducive to learning. Their parents love them, but are doing everything they can to just get by. Books are a luxury they cannot afford. Having quality books readily assessible to our students will help bridge the gap in their literacy experience. The kids will be able to take books home, share with their families, and return to school having enlarged their schema, experiences and imagination!
