My students attend a public charter school in the center of Washington, D.C. Our school is grounded in the following principles: Integrity - We accept nothing less than the best. We maintain high expectations for our entire school community. We cultivate an ethic of service, responsibility, participation and respect. Determination - We never give up. We are relentless in the pursuit of our mission to ensure the success of every student. Achievement - We get results. We hold ourselves and our students accountable to the highest levels of academic achievement. My students are incredibly diverse: 54% of our students are African-American; 25% Latino; 18% Caucasian; and 3% Asian. In addition, 21% speak more than one language at home, mainly Spanish and over 65% qualify for free or reduced lunch. Most of the students live at or below the poverty line and have very few, if no books at home.
