I work in a Title 1 school where over 80% of the students are economically disadvantaged. My students do not have the same resources or home support as some of their peers. They often have no exposure to books, science, technology or higher-order thinking outside of the classroom. Because of this, my goal is to expose them to as much as possible while they are with me. I provide them with rich experiences by using as many hands-on activities as possible. I read to them to expose them to different worlds and to increase their imagination. I show them videos so that they can see other parts of the world and learn about different people, jobs, etc. I teach them about technology and how to use it so that they will be be able to become productive working citizens. Most importantly, I help them to become problem solvers by teaching them how to think through the steps to come to a workable solution.
