My students attend a historically failing school in the Mississippi Delta. One hundred percent of the children in the district are on the free or reduced lunch program. Many of them read well below grade level, some on par, and a few actually are accelerated readers. As such, it is difficult to find them materials that will be accessible to the struggling readers while still containing themes, symbolism, and a writing style that will appeal to the more advanced readers.
