Art is very important for young children. It helps them to observe and make sense of their surroundings. I want to provide my students with quality art materials to inspire and empower them to create art. Too often students are given materials that are of poor quality and do not always work. By giving students quality materials, our community is showing that we value what ideas and works of art these children will create.
Each science and social studies unit I have planned has a meaningful art assignment integrated into it. Students will use these materials to represent their learning visually. For example, for our science forces and motion unit, students will create a work of art using motion like Jackson Pollock. They will study Kandinsky's abstract work to discuss how he portrays forces and motion.
By having access to these materials, my student's learning will be more meaningful and deeper and will help form the foundation of their educational careers.
