I teach the 8th grade. My students are NYC inner city children. They live in local areas and the majority are from a one parent household or live with a guardian or relative. They often take care of their siblings. Some of them work part-time jobs after school. They do not have the money to buy books and most don't have money for lunch. They are young, easily impressed, and want all that life can offer. They are used to be disappointed.
