There are 6 AVID elective classes serving 130+ students. These students attend a traditional 9-12 high school with 3100+ students. Students in AVID are chosen because they have the determination to go to college but are not afforded the means to do so. Students in AVID have a 2.5 to 3.5 GPA, are 1st generation college bound, and low income. Without AVID they would not qualify for accelerated classes. AVID places those students into the accelerated classes and then provides them support in the elective class. Students are required to take Cornell notes, keep an organized binder, participate in tutorials twice a week with college students. They are also provided opportunities to participate in cultural activities they may not have experienced before; such as, attending plays, going to museums, having guest speakers, touring colleges. Any support the students need to be successful after high school is given to them in the elective class.
