Students in my classroom are curious about the world around them. They remind me of a sponge, aching to soak up new knowledge. Unfortunately, opportunities for my students are very limited. Supplies and materials, especially for Science, are out of date and do not meet the new standards for our states curriculum. Our school is located in a low-income neighborhood where 87% of our students participate in the free/reduced school lunch program. More than 75% of the students are of a minority, with 15% labeled as non-English speaking. Many of my students lack the support of family/guardians and rely solely on the adults at school to shape and mold them into successful students. However, these challenges do not get my students down. They greet me every morning happy to have a safe, secure environment to come to and are very eager to learn.
