With eager students and caring supporters, this devoted teacher just needs that final piece of her puzzle: a lovely library that wonderful donors help her stock! My students are individuals who attend a high risk school in a challenged neighborhood. Our school system is going through a massive overhaul which I am proud to be a part of. They deserve better from us as teachers and from the system that they and their parents trust with their education which is, in a sense, their entire life. Without a quality first grade education, my students will fall further behind their upper and middle class counterparts, which is something that I am very conscious of. I believe that literacy is the key to changing the potential negative trajectory of my students, yet I cannot ask much financially of their caregivers. I hope that this endeavor will take some of the pressure off of these already burdened households and ensure that my students thrive to their fullest potential.
