My students have many different attitudes towards reading. While some of my students enjoying reading, others aren't so crazy about it. However, many times I find that students don't read because they have never experienced reading a book that they can truly connect and relate to. Through Silent Sustained Reading (SSR) last year, a number of my students found books for SSR that they enjoyed. Some students told me this was the first book they read on their own in years, if ever. When students discover this in one book, they want to read even more books to discover more. Providing my students access to a variety of Young Adult Literature motivates them to want to read. In turn, they become stronger readers. They also become life-long readers.
