Our little readers love books, and what better place to encourage that love of reading than in the school library! With students in grades PreK-8th, our library services super readers, struggling readers, and students with learning disabilities and mood disorders. This project will provide a variety of age-appropriate books on the topics of diversity and kindness, and the decorative light covers will create a calm atmosphere for my little readers. Studies show that fluorescent lighting can affect autistic students who may have a sensitivity to light, and our library is filled with fluorescent and natural light. The decorative light covers can soften the light and provide all students with a calming atmosphere in which to enjoy their books. Our library is already filled with wonderful books, but we lack new books that focus on diversity and kindness. Pete the Cat is a favorite of our little readers, so we hope to add many titles from that series with the help of this project. And, with the decorative light filters featuring scenes from the Pete the Cat books, our little readers will be inspired by Pete and continue to fall in love with reading!
