My students live in a large Midwest city. They attend a public high school and come from all parts of our city. They are an economically, geographically, and racially diverse group of students. My students are motivated to learn and are inquisitive and artistic. By attending a magnet school, they have a rigorous course load. Their observational knowledge of astronomy is lacking though, having grown up in a city and they are excited to take astronomy and get to know the night sky. This class is an elective they have chosen to take in their last year of high school.
