This project will benefit seven 3rd-6th grade students with autism. The age range is around 8, 9,10 and 11. We are a Title I school and my students with autism are bused from all over the district for the site based autism program provided through my type of classroom. Many of my students spend over an hour on the bus before arriving at school. When they arrive they struggle to get focused, since they have been on the bus for a while. So when it is time for our morning circle trying to get them focused and learning is a challenge. To help them focus more and learn to the best of their ability they need items that are hands on and fun. If they are able to stay active during the circle and moving to work on exciting items they will focus more and they will learn more information, do to being excited about the materials in the classroom.
