I have been tasked with revitalizing the reading program at our high school. This is a serious task, as literacy is the single greatest predictor of achievement. Our literacy seminar classes are for high school students who are considerably behind in reading. My high spirited students have struggled with reading throughout their K-12 education. My 10th, 11th, and 12th graders are reading at about a 6th grade reading level. But they're thinking like any other high school student. I have to find the right texts and strategies to bring their reading skills up to their thinking skills.
