I teach 10th and 11th grade students at a charter high-school in California, where the majority of students receive free or reduced lunch. Many students are English language learners, and therefore require non-linguistic representations to understand the complicated topics in a college-prep Chemistry course, which is full of dense vocabulary. To best serve my students, and help them understand the material, I need to offer them as many representations of the material as possible, both in written and visual format.
