Every day, I pick a “mystery student” and place their name in a box or jar. I also place a small prize in the box or jar. No one, except me, knows who it is. Throughout the day, I observe everyone’s behavior, reminding them that they could be the mystery student. If that student exhibits good behavior all day. At dismissal, I will announce who it is and give him/her a prize that is also in the box or jar. BUT, if that student did not demonstrate good behavior, I don’t tell the class who it was. They must keep thinking that one of them can always be the mystery student.
