The English and History classes will become cross-curricular. The students in the English class will be expected to read a non-fiction book about an area of Kansas that interests them. The students will then be expected to submit a non-fiction book report. Books such as Civil War Kansas and Farming the Dust Bowl will qualify for this assignment. The reading and book report will take place in the fall semester. Then in the Spring semester, the students will study Kansas History. The students will be expected to select at project-based learning (PBL) project using the non-fiction book as a resource. An example of a possible project is to use the Civil War Kansas and create a presentation pertinent to the topic. As the final for the course, the students will present their projects. It is the desire of this project is to assist the students' learning that they live in a state that has a rich past, diverse ethnic heritage and a very promising future.
