I teach Ninth grade Business and Computer Applications courses. The Dorman Freshman Campus (DFC) student demographic illustrates the cultural diversity of its residential and business communities. We have 880 students at DFC. The ethnic break down of this population is comprised of nine groups including 36 ESOL students. We have 64 Hispanics, 36 Asian students, 285 African-Americans, 1 Indian, 2 Caucasian/Asians, 4 Caucasian/African-Americans, 2 Caucasian/Indians, and 480 Caucasian students. A breakdown of our current population shows that 347 students receive free lunch and 78 receive reduced lunch, with 49% of our students at or below the poverty level. Our school's rapidly changing socio-economic status reflects a population ranging from people who are homeless to those living in luxury homes. Many of our students reside in single parent households and do not have computers at home.
