I teach 5th grade, in a school of around 550 students. Most of my students are from a low socio-economic background, and need lots of extra love. I try to make my classroom as warm and "homey" as possible. Students learn best and are most comfortable when they feel "at home." We work on reading, writing, and math, yes, but more importantly, I teach my students life skills, such as how to be respectful, how to greet others, and how to be a good citizen. If nothing else, when they leave my classroom, I hope they leave with a memory of being part of a class "family."
