I work with students from preschool through middle school. Over half of them have language impairments, some compounded by the disabilities of autism, cognitive delays, and learning disabilities. In many cases, pictures help these students to understand what is being taught to them, and allows some of my students to communicate through pictures, when they do not have the ability to speak. Due to an E5 tornado that recently destroyed much of our community, all of my students lives have been deeply affected in some aspect or another. Many are transitioning to new school buildings, since they have either lost their home, or their old school was destroyed. A camera would be invaluable to my classroom to make social stories about their new schools, make visual schedules, visual recipes, communication boards, and pictures for experience stories about projects my students do during the year. The laminator would allow me to make these materials more permanent so they can be used again.
