We are keeping our eyes on the iPads for this one! I am a 4th grade reading teacher, and I want to bring literature and nonfiction to life for my students!
From watching astronauts read books aloud from space, creating skits and recording them of our favorite books, using mentor texts as models for creating our own books, and bringing to life the fascination and wonder inside them is what these items will do for my students. I have lower socio-economic students and 90 percent of them are on free or reduced lunch. Their access to technology is limited outside of school, and even in school we are not fortunate enough to provide the amount of technology required for a 1:1 ratio. My students are growing up in a world that is technologically driven and will need to be quite fluent with it. While they are very fluent with apps that offer games and other social interactions, they are not very fluent when it comes research or creating projects for school.
Having access to these iPads will broaden my students' horizons with technology and further prepare them for the world that awaits.
