I teach over 40 students in a K-6 English Language Learners program at a high poverty school in Iowa. They speak 13 different languages and come from almost every continent! They are some of the best and brightest kids that I have ever met. Their parents are working many jobs to try and provide for their children. The majority of my students leave school and walk home to an empty apartment or trailer home where they will stay until school starts the next day. Sadly, they end up watching hours upon hours of television as they are not allowed to play outside. I want to change that. They deserve more. They need more.
