On the 10th Day of Donating: “Mr. Popper’s Penguins”

Share:

This holiday season Mrs. Parker of Burton Elementary School in Burton, TX has the perfect winter book to teach her third-graders. So far, Mrs. Parker has only been able to complete one reading unit with her students. Because this unit was so successful, she hopes to continue the process of building life-long readers by teaching the classic childhood book Mr. Popper’s Penguins.Through a reading unit about Mr. Popper’s Penguins, Mrs. Parker hopes her students lose themselves in the magic of the book and let their imaginations run wild. The book will not only create avid readers, but also help her students develop skills needed for standardized testing in a fun and exciting way.Right now, Mrs. Parker’s class is precariously balanced on the border between “loving or hating reading.” All they need is a fantastic book to tip them over the edge and demonstrate how fun reading can be. Mrs. Parker thinks Mr. Popper’s Penguins is just the book.
