Round 3 on 11/22/13! This started out as a dare 3 years ago and has turned into something benefiting more than 1,500 students nationwide. Bicycling 150 miles from Santa Monica to San Diego is a small feat compared to the hard work this country's teachers do in the class room day after day. Get involved!
Thank you so much for your contribution to our donors choose project. With your donation we were able to buy an engineering curriculum called Designing Knee Braces that the fifth grade used at our school. They had just finished studying the human body and so this was a perfect culminating project. The students loved all of the activities provided and it was so useful to have books, supplies, and curriculum for the teachers to use. The students went through the engineering design cycle. First they learned about how healthy knees worked and then they studied a model injured knee and took measurements. Then their challenge was to design and build a knee brace that would stabilize the knee, be comfortable, and easy to get on and off. The students learned so much through this project and the teachers learned how to more easily help the students learn through the engineering cycle. The students saw how important applied learning can be. Thank you for supporting this project and our students!”
Thank you so much for these incredible books! My students are very excited to read each day because of your incredible generosity! Already they have become more successful and enthusiastic readers! The books came in time for our school "Read-A-Thon"! All the interesting books are being enjoyed at school and at home. My students are able to read these books independently, with partners, and in small groups. Now I am able to truly differentiate instruction because my students can read at their "just right" level. Only through your amazing support of public education, my second grade readers can now "go places" by enjoying a great book. I am forever grateful for your support! Thank you, thank you, and thank you!!”
When the boxes arrived in my classroom, my students felt as though it was Christmas. They were literally mesmerized as I brought supplies out of them: paper, markers, hall passes, an industrial pencil sharpener. I laughed as they started calling "dibs" on the supplies.
All the supplies were used for projects and essays in class but focusing specifically on space science. There were no "paper limits", no marker shortages, and no time consuming borrowing from other classrooms just to sharpen pencils. My students were thrilled, engaged, and during last semester finals, I was amazed at the increase of their test scores.
I thank you all for your generosity and dedication to my students, or should I say OUR students? They are our future and you definitely invested in them!”
Your contribution has touched my heart and the minds of my students.
My most memorable part of the unit was the investigation of magnets. Last year when teaching about magnets, I had to use magnets that I had on my fridge and around my classroom. I was so nervous in planning how I will teach my students again this year. This time around, I gave my students a lot of power through student generated discussions. Students were able to read books on the topics. They developed their own questions, conducted their own experiments, and discovered their own answers. It was an amazing feeling to see my students actively engaged in group discussions. They were having so much fun, that they didn't even realize it was learning. I was so impressed to see how my students' vocabulary has grown as they talk about magnetism, force, attraction, repel, and even Newton's Laws of motions.
These moments that I shared with my students will hold a special place in my heart. I feel that I have grown as a teacher and a person. And I can't wait to continue to challenge my students in Science.
Thank you so much for your amazing support! My students were beyond thrilled when all the "Who was..." books arrived! This series of inspiring, illustrated biographies is perfect for my students. The artists, musicians, scientists, athletes, authors, presidents, and the famous events in these books will help bring history alive in my classroom. Each biography is complete with facts, interesting anecdotes, and compelling illustrations. Included in these books are sidebars on related topics, a timeline, and a bibliography enhance readers understanding of each person or event. These books will match my excited readers who are beyond easy-to-read but not quite ready for long, detailed nonfiction. My students will be able to use these books to help them with their own mini-biography. What an incredible gift you have given my students. I am very thankful and grateful for your support of public education! Thank you, thank you, thank you!”

I really do not know where to begin. So I will simply say thank you for the subscription of Scholastic News. The kindness and generosity you have given to our students is beyond words so I will illustrate the impact your donation has had on our classroom environment, student motivation, and learning the classroom.
When our students first saw their first issue they were ecstatic. They grabbed the paper and immediately began reading. They asked questions like can we please do a summary on this and I would like to learn more about this topic, can I use the computer to research the topic. The articles brought to world around them to their home of Compton. It put their situations into perspective and they realized that they did not have it as bad as they previously thought. They have learned so much about their world and these issues make the children want to learn more about their world.
From the first day of receiving these magazines, my children have had a better outlook on learning and a love of the world around them. Your donation has created 21st century students who are college bound and ready to impact the world around them in a positive holistic way. Thank you!”
During the past school year 2012-2013 my kindergarten class has shown enormous improvement in their writing. The special pencil that they received made it easier for them to form letters, words and stay on the lines as well as spacing the words in sentences.
For some children it helped them in their creative writing . The students refer to these pencils as their "magic pencils". The Crayola crayons were especially helpful for the English language learners in class to learn and recognized the basic eight colors.
Over the past school year, their drawings have improve greatly with the use of their crayons. Since the crayons are made well, they did not break as quickly as smaller size crayons and less quality crayons from other companies. My class takes pride in their drawings.
On behalf of my students, I would like to thank you for your generous donations to us. I hope you enjoy the letters and pictures from my students.”

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for caring! We now have a growing classroom library because of your help. Students read your books which is leveled to their reading level, so they can build on their individualized reading skills with a variety of books to choose from. My students utilize this library everyday and check out your books to read beyond school hours. These books have hooked my students to love literature and will hopefully create lifelong readers in them. With this resource in place, I have seen drastic improvements in my students, reading skill level as well as motivation.
These books will affect my students more than we will know, and your books will continue to be read and loved by more students in years to come. Thank you for your support in quality teachers and public education.”

Thank you on behalf of the students and PS 7 community. Our X-Box Kinnects have be used on daily basis, either in the gym or during lunch periods. Showing children how technology is used and embraced by the physical education community is very important. Many people feel that technology has taken us to the most sedentary of lifestyles. The Kinnect games that we play have let the students express themselves and showed them how fun it is to be active!
Your generosity will allow us to show these children otherwise. I count myself fortunate to work with these boys and girls on a daily basis. It is not without difficulty though. Our budgetary constraints don't allow for the best of everything but you have made it possible to touch the lives of these children.
We thank you again for helping our school and Physical Education program!”
Thank you so much for helping our class fund a field trip to see the space shuttle Endeavour at the California Science Center! Without your help, this trip would not have been a reality for many of our students. They were beyond excited when the field trip day finally arrived. It was an amazing trip where my students got to learn more about the space program and the history of the Endeavour and it's missions to space. They could not believe the size and magnitude of the shuttle and looked forward to researching and learning more about the other space shuttles!
Once again, thank you from the bottom of our hearts! People like you make such a difference in education and we appreciate it more than you know!”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Rossi
