Studies have proven that it is much easier for a student to learn a second language if they can read in their native language. It helps develop cognitive language skills that students carry over into their new language because they understand the process of reading. Many of our students have not learned to read in Spanish, their native language or have low reading skills. Others just prefer to read in the language they are most comfortable with. By receiving these books for my Media Center it will enhance the collection available to my students and provide more high interest books for them to choose from. In addition, it will be beneficial for our students studying Spanish as a Foreign Language.
