I am asking for these books sets for our class book clubs. My students will be reading a shared series within a book club. My hope is that these book clubs will provide a safe, supportive context for not only daring thinking, but also break through work with skills. My students will have the opportunity to talk to their peers about their love for the characters in their book and this sort of talk will extend their thinking. When readers are able to talk together they develop bigger ideas than they would on their on. After all, two heads are better than one! I want my students to move forward into slightly more challenging books - encouraging them to work with greater independence, and pull from all the skills we have worked on this year. In the bookclubs students will analyze characters. They will look into the book to discover how the characters think and feel. The highlighting tape will help them draw attention to important details that they want to share with each other. In the book clubs the students will also notice how authors use word choice, figurative language, punctuation, and story structure to make their stories come to life.
