We are living in an era when images can be captured with the swipe of your thumb. Challenging students to slow down and think through the process of proper image capture is key in developing a sense of craftsmanship and respect for the photographic process. This year we will explore the process of fine art photography by capturing images with analog cameras and subsequently converting the images to the digital work space. This process will allow students to gain an appreciation for film photography through the study of camera functions, optics, chemistry, and proper photographic technique. Students will then modernize their workflow by scanning their film and learning how to manipulate digital images for artistic effect. This hybrid workflow will allow students to be efficient in their printmaking while still holding true to the timeless nature of analog photography.
