Allowing my students choice when they read will build not only interest but also confidence. With a program that consist of struggling readers, confidence is important. Increasing the frequency of reading will in turn increase the reading ability. Students will use the novels during our program wide independent reading time (where all teachers, aides, and students read their personal selections together). The wide variety of tiles, authors, and characters on this list will be sure to draw in even the most reluctant student. There is something on this list for all level of readers. Students will be able to choose books, which will help them enjoy independent reading time. It is my hope that building this classroom library will give students the opportunity to thumb through a book and select something that best fits their interests and life style. Therefore, inspiring them to read both inside and outside of the classroom.
