My classroom is vibrant space for vivacious learning. The students in classes at our majority-minority high school south of Atlanta (who represent diverse cultures are engaged in conversations--hence the tables rather than traditional desks in rows. In a typical 28-student class, 15 are African-American, 3 are Hispanic-American, 3 are Asian-American, 4 are Caucasian-American, and 3 are Multiracial. Many are first-generation Americans; most are headed to college, several the first in their families. My goal in this classroom is to foster a truly student-centered learning environment for all my diverse students that is full of conversation, challenging texts, and complex ideas.
