As a Behavioral Health Specialist in a school on a military base, the students I work with are a diverse group of children with a wide variety of needs. They originate from the continental U.S., Puerto Rico, Guam, Polynesia, and other countries. Our school is in Hawai'i and our enrollment fluctuates between 800-1,000 students. I primarily work with students who have special needs that include attention deficits, learning disabilities, and autism. Most of my kids also receive special education services, but I am available to help all students. I find it challenging and rewarding to help them learn how to identify their thoughts & feelings so they can manage their behaviors. Many of them have progressed well and no longer need counseling services. I have a good sized counseling office with an area that needs comfortable furniture such as bean bags, shelves for toys & books, and a table for puzzles.
