My students are awesome, hardworking and motivated to learn. They are interested in graduating high school, going to college and obtaining financial independence. My students face barriers to achieving their goals. They are 9th grade Special Education students who read and write three grades below grade level . Students struggle from a range of disabilities ranging from dyslexia, dysgraphia and learning processing disorder . Students have trouble with comprehension, written language and decoding text. Students can be successful when provided with additional support such as audio books, option to type vs write and graphic organizers. In addition learning disabilities students attend a school where only 61 percent of students graduate. Only 25% of students with disabilities graduate with standard high school diplomas. Students do not have computers or school supplies such as pencil and paper. The school also lacks basic resources and supplies. There are no computers in our class.
