I work in a school with over 400 of the most precious Pre K to 5th grade youngsters you could ever love. They come from a tough neighborhood, where in the heart of the Nations Capitol, life has exposed them to many things we never could even imagine. They're kids, often growing up too fast in a world where play is left behind. My goal is to take them back, to a time where play is the key to life, to learning about themselves and how they fit into the world. I work with Special Education and General Education students, and other than the way that they learn, to me they're all alike. Bright, engaging, loving young people who just want a chance to smile, learn, love and express their most important thoughts and feelings. I let my students take the lead in sessions, let them choose what mode of communication they feel comfortable with from week to week. From the youngest to the oldest, most times they grab a toy, a game or some pencils and papers to invite me into their world.
