My students are an amazing group of hardworking and diverse individuals. Although our school is public it is a leadership academy which students must apply and be accepted to. These students face the challenge of military discipline and standards that they have never faced at their zone schools. They also don't have the comfort of knowing or living near the majority of their classmates. Despite these circumstances I see my students grow into mature young adults who, because of these challenges, develop into a class-family. Their at-home lives are no doubt arduous but in our classroom everyone works together to achieve a common goal. The best part about my job is learning more about my students and who they are individually so that I can handpick literature which reflects a little of each of them. This is one of the most rewarding and challenging tasks but it's always worth it.
