I teach English I Pre-AP and co-direct our writing center. My students are an eclectic group of ninth graders. Our writing center tutors are dedicated to helping their peers become better communicators. Our school is in a middle to low income area of our town. Their cultural diversity is unmatched in our district and as such they have many different interests, backgrounds, languages, and abilities. Because of the income disparity between some of our students, reading and writing levels differ greatly in a single class. I understand that growing literacy fluency and writing skills is the only way to overcome the achievement gap.
