My students are a special group of middle school students who have special needs. Middle school is a age of adjustment and discovering who you are. It's a time when being different is not a desirable trait. It's a challenging time for students and the adults who work with them. Add learning disabilities on top of all the struggles associated with this age and those are my students. My students are kind, curious, and funny but deal with issues like ADHD, Down Syndrome, and Mildly and Moderate Intellectual Disabilities that make them act, think, and sometimes look different. We live in a rural farming community and families struggle with unemployment. Our community lacks the funding to provide resources that will assist my students to improve their reading and show they can be successful in their own way.
